When you see or hear about the topic” living a healthy lifestyle “.. The popular saying” health is wealth” easily comes to mind.
But is health really wealth? How can you even live a healthy lifestyle? Is an healthy lifestyle even realistic?
Is health wealth?
Yes it is, “a living dog is better than a dead lion” that’s another quote or saying that comes to mind. When you live a healthy life style you are far more wealthy than a large number of people in the world. Cos a lot of other people who are really wealthy spend lots of cash treating one terminal illness or the other. An ailment that can be avoided by living a healthy lifestyle.
How to live a healthy life style
Living a healthy lifestyle can be very stressful and exhausting. Our body is like a store house where we keep things, another quote comes to mind “you are what you eat” Food… Thats where we will be starting from today
We will be seeing some main keys in living a healthy life style
We will be talking now on different ways food can affect you, or make you live a healthy life style.
– Eat a balanced diet
Let me guess, everyone one was taught this in primary school right? Yes we were but how many people can actually successfully practice it in living a healthy life style?
A balanced diet is simply meal that consists of the six(6) classed of food in adequate proportion.

Eating a balanced diet won’t only make you happy, it will also make you live a healthy life style
– Do not eat too much
“You are what you eat”
Eating too much caused more harm than good to the body, have you eaten so much that after eating standing up becomes a problem..lol…not to talk of walking.. “too much of any thing is bad”
Please and please reduce the intake of food, whenever you eat little food, do you agree with me that you feel free in your body? Eat good food but please don’t be a glutton.. If you really want to live a healthy life style you will eat little food. ” A word is enough for the wise”
– Drink lots of water
Water is so powerful yet so many people don’t know its importance, to be honest that can be very painful. It’s like you don’t know that about 60% of the body is made up of water, water aids digestion and is practically important in basically every thing in the body, in the cell, the tissues etc.
Water is as important as blood is to the body, or have you wondered why sick people are given water drips in the hospital? It’s practically possible to stay without food for days, but same thing can’t be said about water.
Furthermore, drinking water helps in losing weight. A Health.com study carried out among overweight or obese people showed that water drinkers lose 4.5 more pounds than a control group! The researchers believe that it’s because drinking more water helps fill your stomach, making you less hungry and less likely to overeat.
The amount of water we need is dependent on various factors such as humidity, your physical activity, and your weight, but generally, we need 2.7-3.7 liters of water intake per day. Since food intake contributes about 20% of our fluid intake, that means we need to drink about 2.0-3.0 liters of water or about 8-10 glasses (now you know how the 8 glasses recommendation came about!). One way to tell if you’re hydrated — your urine should be slightly yellow. If it’s not, like it’s dark yellow or even orange, you’re not getting enough water! Other signs include dry lips, dry mouth, and little urination. Do me a favour and go and take some water right now..
When should you take water?
First thing in the morning when you wake up:
– Eat fruits regularly
Fruits are so important and just like water they perform the work of purification.
As much as possible, consume your vitamins and minerals through your diet rather than through pills. I eat a variety of fruits every morning and they energize me. Satisfy your palate with these nutritious fruits: Banana, Papaya, Kiwi, Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Raspberries, Watermelon, Rockmelon, Honeydew, Peach, Apple, Grapefruit, Pomelo, Mango, Orange.
Also try to eat, garlic, onions, tomatoes regularly they help a lot. This fruits contains lots of vitamins.
– Fasting/ Abstinence from food

Once in a while, stop eating for one or two days and start drinking just water, fruits and vegetables.. It helps to purify and remove unwanted substances from your body system.

– Reduce intake of fast food
Fast food and junks have become the other day cos so many people can’t cook their own meals or they are just too busy to cook or too lazy. Whatever the case may be, that issue has to be solved first in order for you to live a healthy life style. Fast food, junks or processed food as some may call it offer no nutrients at all to the system.
Processed food is not good because (a) most of the nutritional value is lost in the creation of these foods, and (b) the added preservatives are bad for our health. Many processed foods contain a high amount of salt which leads to higher blood pressure and heart disease. I totally understand, they taste so wonderful you could kill to eat em’ but do you know sweet things kill faster than you can imagine..
– Eat Vegetable
Eating vegetables doesn’t mean you become a vegetarian or something just like I’ve said before, its necessary for purification. I think we should all know about this story in the bible about a guy named Daniel and his friends in a strange land who ate vegetables instead of meat and they looked better than their peers, just because they chose forks over knives.. Forks over knives? They chose vegetables over meat.. Meat has been found to cause heart diseases probably because of the amount of oil or fat in it or something, that’s why older people are always advised to stop eating meat even egg.
Try eating vegetables, it actually helps in making you live a healthy life style
– Reduce intake of food, high in cholesterol
Just like I stated above, reduce the intake of meat and of course reduce the intake of anything fried. In frying things we use ground nut oil or palm oil and majority of this oils contain cholesterol. So inorder to reduce cholesterol you can try to start using high quality oil like… (nah, I’m not going to do a free advert.. Lol)
To live a healthy life style you need to reduce intake of fatty foods
– Reduce Alcohol
Do you know Alcohol contains more sugar than the sugar in soft drinks, beer for instance is gotten from barley which after processing becomes so bitter that they have to add lots of sugar to make it okay to drink.
If you want to live a healthy life style you need to stop taking alcohol
– Reduce intake of sugar and soft drinks
Some people can take sugar for Africa, sugar in yam, sugar in beans etc. Sugar kills, it doesn’t just make you have diabetes it causes so many other things that can the body crash, but the sad thing about this is, it doesn’t affect a person most times until the person grows old. Do you want to live a healthy life style please reduce the intake of sugar try honey. Stop taking soft drinks, take fruit drinks more or better still eat fruits cos many fruit juices use artificial sweetners and colouring.
SAY NO TO SMOKING
“Smokers are liable to die young ” another saying comes to mind
Smoking can cause increase in the risk of lung cancer, kidney cancer, esophageal cancer (of our gullet), heart attack, and more. Smoking “lite” cigarettes do not decrease health risks either. If you’re a smoker, quit not just for yourself, but for your family and friends. If you don’t smoke, stay that way and don’t start.
Even moving with people who smoke is as bad as smoking, second-hand smoking (breathing in air from smokers) causes many of the same long-term diseases as direct smoking.
Regular exercise can help you burn calories and help reduce weight. Movement is life. Research has shown that exercising daily brings tremendous benefits to our health, including an increase in lifespan, lowering of risk of diseases, higher bone density, and weight loss. Increase the activity in your life. Once in a while take long walks or jog early in the morning before the sun comes out..
This all helps in living a healthy and better life style
Meditation makes you calm, try to meditate more often, depending on your religion.. Use the time of meditation to communicate with your God and feel the calmness comes deep down to your soul.
Deprivation of sleep can do more harm than good, to have a healthy life style, sleep is important. When you don’t rest well, you compensate by eating more. Usually, it’s junk food. Get enough rest and you don’t need to snack to stay awake. Also, lack of sleep causes premature aging and you don’t want that! But that doesn’t give you liberty to over sleep.
MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY
No one can make you happy except you make yourself happy! So be happy today cos it’s one key to living a healthy lifestyle
HANGOUT OUT WITH LOVED ONES
Family and friends is everything, moving around with people who love you can make you more relaxed than you can ever think.. Living a healthy life style requires you going out with loved ones, could be a picnic, an outing etc
Inhale and exhale deeply more often, under the shower, while jogging etc.
Once in a while go for swim and go under water, holding your breath for a while
Refuse to see the negativity in this life and see the good side of life..
