Where to Spend Christmas in USA
New York City, New York
Typically, in many states in the USA, winter comes with an aura of inactivity. The weather becomes too cold and no one wants to come outside but this is not the case in New York City. Contrary to the believed inactivity and dullness that’s associated with winter, NYC comes alive during the winter season.
At Christmas, everything in New York City radiates the yuletide season, from streetlights to stores with Christmas decorations to homes with beautiful Christmas trees and what have you. For a memorable Christmas holiday, a visit to New York City would be a good option.
While in New York City for Christmas, you can visit the Rockefeller Center where one of the biggest Christmas trees in the world is standing. The tree is lighted up during Christmas and people from all works of life go there to have fun, take pictures, and create memories under the lights of the tree.
Also, you can go ice skating in Bryant Park located in the city’s center. Every year, Bryant Park is remodeled with an ice skating rink in the center so people can enjoy ice skating when they visit New York for Christmas.
San Francisco, California
California is a lovely place to visit during holiday seasons. Interestingly, the things that make it a lovely place to spend Christmas becomes more bogus as Christmas approaches. To say it in clear terms, California becomes full of life when winter and the Christmas season approaches.
San Francisco is the place to spend Christmas while in California and there are several reasons why this is so. First, the seasonable ethnic foods of Californians are something you do not get easily. If you are a foodie like me, this is the perfect destination for Christmas.
Also, there is a practice in San Francisco during Christmas where people engage in walking tours from Union Square down to Fisherman’s Wharf and then crown it up with unique celebrations. Sadly, due to the outbreak of covid-19, this practice is not feasible at the moment.
There are so many celebrations that characterize the yuletide season in San Francisco. There is the Dickens Fair, Sausalito Lighted Boat Parade, Santa Run at Crispy Field, Italian Christmas Market at Museo Italo Americano, to mention only a few.
Lastly, while at California for Christmas, pay a visit to a bakery in Little Italy to have a taste of the traditional Italian Christmas cookie. Although not in San Francisco, Yosemite is around lovely place to visit for Christmas in California. It has the Yosemite National Park which features ice skating, skiing, hiking, and much more.
A visit to the nation’s capital for Christmas is not a bad idea in any regard. During Christmas, Washington comes alive with Christmas light displays, carols, and markets. It is not only the administrative hub of the USA as it comes alive for Christmas too.
The National Christmas Tree gets lit up together with the Pathway of Peace for everyone to see and the lights remain on until January. Throughout the yuletide season, people come to watch coral groups singing on the Ellipse in front of the White House.
At Ford’s Theater, “A Christmas Carol” show is performed from December until 1st January. The show is beloved of locals as tickets sell out faster than most concerts held around the country. Also, Enchant Christmas, the world’s largest Christmas light maze and market, holds at Nationals Park and runs until December 29.
Love art and artistic work? Then head over to Georgetown and attend the annual Glow DC event that runs from 6th December to 5th January. It is a one-of-a-kind curated exhibition of outdoor public light art displays.
My personal best place to spend Christmas in the United States is in Kauai, Hawaii. Regardless of the time of the year, a visit to Kauai would proof it is a lovely place for a fantastic vacation, an escape from the hustle and bustle of life.
Especially for Christmas, Kauai emits a burst of vibe and energy which I am sure you would love to have an experience of. Christmas decorations fill the streets and the locals are very friendly with tourist and visitors. The air is warm and refreshing just what you need for a relaxing holiday.
You can spend Christmas on the beach with your loved ones, engage in surfing, boogie boarding, go on catamaran rides, beach walks, hiking, and much more. While all these are done during the day, the evening presents its own kind of vibe with open-air restaurants for memorable Christmas dinner out.
Salt Lake City, Utah
Last but not the least on places to spend Christmas in USA is Salt Lake City in Utah. Salt Lake City is a great place to spend Christmas as the city presents a mix of city life and mountaineering. One can experience what a city feels like and at the same time experience the days of the cavemen (LOL).
Salt Lake City is surrounded by mountains and it is the perfect destination for skiing. Amazingly, some of the best skiing in the world takes place in the city. Since there would be crowds at the major skiing centers around, Solitude Resort is an alternative.
Kids can go skiing with Santa Claus as there are beginners trail in the resort while experts can make use of the steep sections. At Solitude Resort, you enjoy a bit of everything, from skiing to snowshoeing to Nordic skiing, all in one place.
Staying in the rural areas of Salt Lake City will give you the opportunity to enjoy their heated outdoor pools and water tubs. Bathing in heated pools and water tubs during winter is something that is better experienced than narrated.
To finish up your visit to Salt Lake City, take the whole family to see Ballet West performing The Nutcracker and round up your voyage by getting the best hot chocolate at Hatch Family Chocolates. For me, if you are looking for where to spend Christmas with the entire family, go to Salt Lake City.
